Have you always wanted straighter teeth but dreaded the thought of wearing metal braces? Dread no more! Invisalign® can straighten your smile invisibly!
Traditional braces use metal pads that are bonded to the fronts of your teeth and connected by metal wires. The result is a “mouthful of metal” that can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. Metal braces come with a large number of food restrictions, are hard to clean around, and can irritate the insides of your mouth.
To be fair, metal braces are usually the best option for severe orthodontic cases. For everyone else, Invisalign may be the perfect option to straighten their teeth and perfect their smile.
Invisalign is Different
Unlike visible, awkward, and uncomfortable metal braces, Invisalign uses a customized series of smooth, clear plastic aligners. The aligners fit over your teeth and are almost undetectable when you have them in place.
You wear each aligner for about two weeks, after which you start with the next aligner in your customized series. For best results, you wear the comfortable aligners for about 22 hours a day, removing them to eat and to care for your teeth. You can eat the foods you love and maintain your teeth and gums just as you normally would.
The aligners fit so closely over your teeth that you needn’t worry about them coming loose unexpectedly, even while you sleep.
Invisalign is quick
Invisalign treatment compares very favorably in terms of time to traditional metal braces. Metal braces are usually worn for as long as two or three years. Many patients complete their Invisalign treatment in as little as six to twelve months. And during that time, you’re not embarrassed by a mouthful of metal, eating the foods you love, and avoiding irritation of your lips, gums, tongue, and cheeks.
Invisalign Can Treat a Wide Variety of Dental Issues
Invisalign can effectively treat gapped, crowded, and misaligned teeth. It’s indicated for cases of overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite (where your teeth don’t meet). It may be possible to use Invisalign for other conditions, but you’ll need a consultation with Dr. Gill to know whether that’s possible for you.
When Treatment is Complete
When teeth are moved, whether through braces or Invisalign, there’s a tendency for them to slowly drift back to their original positions. To prevent that, you’ll wear a comfortable dental retainer while sleeping to keep your teeth in their new positions.
