In just a few days, millions of Americans will sit down in front of their TVs for the annual Hollywood event — the 90th annual Academy Awards. There is just something so delightfully escapist about watching the glitterati walk down the red carpet with their luxurious gowns, elegant tuxedos, sparkling jewelry, and perfectly coiffed hair.
And those smiles. As dental professionals, of course, we look at those pearly whites first thing. But those dazzling Hollywood grins are tough for anyone to miss.
A former Los Angeles resident herself, Dr. Gill is well aware of the importance of looking your best in Tinseltown. And she’s well aware that movie stars are no more likely to have naturally perfect teeth than anyone else.
Their secret? In many, if not most, cases celebrities owe their brilliant smiles to dental veneers. This life-changing cosmetic dentistry procedure transforms even the most drab and blemished smile into one that’s worthy of the red carpet.
But you don’t need to be a Hollywood celebrity to benefit from the magic of the veneer. For a consultation in Louisville, KY, call Natural Smiles at 502-414-0146.
Why You Need a Great Smile
Perhaps you think cosmetic dentistry is a waste of money. That it’s vain or superficial and it’s wrong for you to spend money on it. But a beautiful smile is actually a smart investment that will pay for itself in myriad ways.
A handshake and a smile. These are both essential components of a first impression. Just like you don’t want your handshake to come off as weak or clammy, you don’t want your smile to appear closed or hesitant. When you smile with your mouth shut or always seem to be hiding your teeth behind your hand, you may come across as timid or unfriendly. And frankly, it’s stressful to constantly have to worry about the state of your teeth. It wears down your confidence and sense of self, it may result in you avoiding social situations and missing out on events.
A blemished smile may even harm your career and, consequently, your bank account. All other things being equal, who is a hiring manager going to choose: the candidate with an easy grin and brimming with confidence or the candidate who seems embarrassed to smile?
A Dental Multitasker
A veneer is a cover for the tooth. Like a facade of sorts that is securely bonded to the frontside of your pearly whites. It is perfectly matched to your real enamel color and shaped just like your natural teeth. You can get a single veneer if you have just one blemished tooth to hide, or you can get a mouthful for the true Hollywood treatment.
When your veneers are placed, a whole host of dental woes just disappear. No more of those unattractive little chips and cracks. No more discoloration — the procedure even eliminates deep intrinsic stains that chemical whitening can’t touch. No more unwanted gaps between the teeth, no more worn-down edges, no more misshapen teeth. Veneers will even cover minor orthodontic problems like crookedness and misalignment.
A Hollywood Beginning
This is a dental procedure that’s not only popular with current stars and entertainers. The story of the veneer actually begins in La La Land. Back in the late 20s and early 30s, dentistry and knowledge about oral hygiene were much less developed than they are today. Many people, including actors, had decayed, crooked, and otherwise blemished smiles. Which, of course, is not what anyone wants to see for a romantic closeup on the silver screen.
Charles Pincus was a Los Angeles dentist who came up with a solution to the problem of bad teeth on screen: the dental veneer. These first veneers were designed to be temporary and be removed after filming, but they did their job. Even child actress Shirley Temple wore Dr. Pincus’s veneers. She always had a complete and perfect smile on screen, no matter her age.
In the 1980s, advancements in bonding technology enabled veneers to become a permanent procedure and therefore practical on a larger scale.
Come for Your Veneers Consultation
If you think you’d like to reap the benefits of a bright new smile through the magic of veneers, call Natural Smiles today for a consultation.
At your initial appointment, Dr. Gill will discuss the process with you, meticulously examine your teeth and gums, and answer any questions you have. Your mouth must be healthy and free of disease before you get veneers.
You may want to get a sense of what you’ll look like before committing to the procedure. We can give you a set of “mock veneers” to try out for about a day. You can wear them inside and outside, in various places and lighting situations to get a sense of how your new veneers will look out in the world. If you decide you want to go forward with getting the real deal, you will come in for another appointment.
At Natural Smiles, we offer stunningly lifelike porcelain veneers. These are durable, stain resistant, and reflect light just like your natural teeth. Before placement, we will need to remove a small amount of enamel from each tooth that will receive a veneer. Since this process just affects the outside layer of the teeth, it should not be painful, but we do have local anesthetic and dental sedation available.
We will take precise impressions of your teeth and send them to our excellent lab in
California. The lab will use the impressions to manufacture your beautiful custom veneers. Once the veneers have arrived at our office, we will have you come in for another appointment.
For each tooth to be treated, we will check the veneer for color and fit, trimming and adjusting as necessary. We will then clean and etch the enamel, which prepares the tooth for a strong bond. We adhere the veneer to the tooth using a type of dental cement that’s cured using a special light. We will then check the veneer’s placement and make any final adjustments. You will walk out of our office with a smile that will make you feel like a star.
