What are Invisalign orthodontics made of?
When you think of braces, you probably think of the metal braces and wires that people complain about poking their gums and are hard to floss around and limit what you can eat. Invisalign is exactly what its name implies. It’s a nearly invisible method for getting your teeth in line. Your teeth are repositioned using smooth, see-through trays tailored specifically for your mouth. No wires. No metal. Just straight teeth.
Are Invisalign orthodontics for adults only?
Teens and adults alike are reluctant to wear metal braces. At our dental office, you can get straight teeth without the metal. Invisalign won’t present problems for your soccer star or burgeoning trombone player — simply remove the clear trays at the beginning of any activity that might present a challenge and replace them when done. With Dr. Gill’s guidance, Invisalign is just as effective for you or your teen as metal braces are.
Will I have to do a lot of work to get straight teeth with Invisalign orthodontics?
Invisalign’s clear, smooth trays are conveniently removed at meal times, for brushing and flossing, or for special occasions. They don’t interfere at all with maintaining the health of your teeth. This is why many patients who’ve chosen to fix their teeth as adults choose Invisalign. You will move through custom-fitted aligners in two-week intervals, with each retainer moving you closer to an even smile. And Invisalign generally only has to be worn half as long as metal braces.
Maintaining your Invisalign retainers is as simple as brushing them with lukewarm water before bed or by using the available cleaning kit. There’s no additional time added to your early morning or your evening routine. You can fix your crooked teeth without messing up your schedule.
What will happen during my first appointment?
At your first visit, Dr. Gill will ask you a few simple questions and take a look at your teeth to make sure you’re a good fit for Invisalign. Here’s what happens next:
- X-rays and photos are taken, and impressions are made of your teeth.
- Dr. Gill sends all this info off to Invisalign to make a 3-D mockup of your teeth.
- Invisalign sends the 3-D image back to Dr. Gill, and she use that to customize a treatment plan for you.
- That plan goes back to Invisalign, and a series of nearly invisible, custom trays are made to move your teeth into place.
